Thanks for this in-depth analysis of the cartoon and animation world. I loved watching PPGs and Dexter's Lab, but never considered them from the aspect of the superhero genre. I just thought that they were brilliant and so much more enjoyable than Mickey Mouse or Woody woodpecker and Chilli Willy. I couldn't relate to Atom Ant even though I liked the cartoon, but PPGs had characters that many of us girls could relate to. After reading your essay, it seems like PPGs were a sort of trailblazer for girl superheroes.

It also seems like there was more going on in the creation of these cartoon characters. They were cute yet badass. I hope they don't go woke like Scooby-Doo' Whelma.
